Profile Represents George Collins ( m Mary Richards and Mary Polly Owen (Owens); (son of John Collins and Jane Major)
This profile is a collaborative work-in-progress. Can you contribute information or sources? Recent research availability has helped to solidify some of the mis-information;
Researchers are encouraged to reverify (and add source) information; making adjustments to profiles as necessary.
No original source records have been located to confirm birth or marriage records. It appears that some erroneous information may have been published, and perhaps republished/reported, making the “actual facts” obscure. There is a great deal of conflicting information surrounding the Collins Family of West Virginia – Many Source-to-Source discrepancies; co-mingling, Lack of records; conflicting family stories; number of Collin’s with the same names, etc. *Profiles suffer an array of issues, which may never be resolved, unless new records are uncovered. See individual profiles for updated source information. Combined Research efforts of "CHT (20 yrs) and IDR" ([Version Date December 13, 2000]) reflects identified children of George and Mary. No estate records located to prove or disprove. Underlying sources (land/Wills etc.,) (OR DNA) may prove or disprove connections. See individual profiles for ongoing updates.
Children regularly have same names -- generation to generation -- with few records available to support.Edwards-7481 13:57, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

[4]LIMUEL (?Lemuel ): b. 1812-1835 There is an entry for a male of this age in the 1820 census, but no corresponding entry in the 1830 census. In 1975, Charles Ross Collins (a grandson of Hezekiah Collins by his son, Lorenzo Dow Collins m Cornelia Ann Cornell (dau of Jonathan Cornell 1816–1900 and Nancy Lucretia Rogers 1819–1896) [15](1857–1932]]) informed his son Max Collins that Hezekiah Collins[16] had two brothers of whom he was aware: a Limuel Collins (who is said to have drowned on Limuel's Run) and Chaney Collins. Since this is the only unidentified male ; I identified this one as Limuel, who more than likely died before 1835 (otherwise, his father may have had him co-sign his trust deed the way he did Manley in 1835).
MANLEY: b. 1814. Married Mary Elliot February 29,1835 (Lewis County marriage records). Raised his family on Slab Creek in Ritchie County, WV. as though there may have been another daughter born 1830-35 and
another one born 1835-40. However, the microfilm is difficult to
read, and/or these may have been other children living with them.

Timeline
1769 = most likely accompanied his father when he settled along the Cheat
River in 1769.
The Collins family moved to Monongalia County Virginia in 1769, where John Sr. got 300 acres by "Settlement rights". The Survey of this tract of land on Morgan Run, Forks of Cheat River shows (Rev.) Jacob Cozad III adjacent to John Collins' Land. It was here that John Collins Jr. won the Rev. Jacob Cozad's daughter's hand in marriage, Miss Hannah Cozad for his wife. They were married about 1771, by Hannah's' father; or, by the Rev. Isaac Sutton, founder of the Great Bethel Baptist Church, at Uniontown Pennsylvania, this Church sponsored the organization of the Forks of the Cheat River Baptist Church on November 5th 1775.
Fact: Military (1776) Rev War - NJ[6] It is a proven fact that his brother, John Collins Jr., went to New Jersey during the Revolutionary War (1776-1777); and George most likely was untruthful about age.
1791 - Moved to his father's farm in 1791; he would have been between 26 and 30 (b 1761-1765)
1829 Calhoun County, West Virginia George Collins obtained a land grant for 100 acres of land on Eliases' Run of Leading Creek in present-day Calhoun
County (Sold in 1838 to presumed son Manley Collins)
1838-1840 moved from the Leading Creek area to Slab Creek in Ritchie County VA. He does appear in the 1840 census, but it's unclear as to
whether he is living in the Leading Creek area of Calhoun County or
in the Slab Creek area of Ritchie County.[22]
