Born in Boones Station KY on 1787 to Elisha Collins and Frances Madison. Nathaniel Madison married Lucy Brumfield. Nathaniel Madison married Susan Burrow and had 8 children. Nathaniel Madison Collins, who is buried in Marion Co, MS. Nathaniel Madison Collins fought with Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812 (1 REG'T MOUNTED GUNMEN (DYER'S), TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS. PRIVATE? served under Capt. Samuel Crawford)

He passed away on 3 Jan 1860 in Goss Marion, Mississippi, USA.

He was son of Frances Madison COLLINS, a niece of President James Madison, and soldiered with Gen'l Andrew Jackson. A pioneer resident in Marion County Ms, he operated a tanyard on the creek that now bears his name.

He is mentioned in the writings of J.F.H. Claiborne of Natchez in his essay on "A Trip through the Piney Woods".

The Mem stone is approximately 2 miles east of Cedar Grove Church Cemetery and Hwy 13, to the north of Cedar Grove Rd, on private Fortenberry property, south of Collins Creek. The stone was placed in 1929 by a Collins heir who was a retired Congressman from Alabama.

His burial plot and other family plots are merging into the creek at the original COLLINS home site.
