He married Amanda Francis Brasher in 1832 in Fayette, Alabama. They had ten children in 27 years. He registered a Homestead of 160 acres in Pontotoc County on June , 1847. [1] In 1850 the census says his family was farming in the Western Division of Chickasaw County, Mississippi. [2] In 1860 the farm is listed as being near Sarepta in Calhoun County. Today we know that the cemetery on their farmstead is located on County Road #153, near the Chickasaw, Pontotoc, and Calhoun County lines on the west side of the road. [3]
Information from "A History of Chickasaw County Mississippi, Volume II" :
"Greenberry Collums was born 1 Jan 1817, probably in Pendelton County, South Carolina. We believe he is the first child of Dempsey Collum (McCollum) and his first wife. Greenberry married in Fayette county, Alabama, a neighbor girl Amanda Francis Brasher, born 18 Jul 1817 to Lawrence Brasher and Sara Edmond. The families had much land in Calhoun and Chickasaw counties, and many descendants live in the area today. Greenberry Collums died 7 Aug 1867 and is buried near his little sons, on family land believed to be near the original homestead. It is not known if his father Dempsey is also buried there."[4]
He passed away in 1895 and is buried near Bruce in the Collums Cemetery, Calhoun County, Mississippi, built on his original land.[5]
