Biography

Captain Harris Colt, 1731-1797, was born and died in Lyme, Connecticut. He was the son of Deacon Benjamin Colt and Miriam Harris. On 7 April 1757 in Lyme, Connecticut, Harris Colt married Elisabeth Turner (1734-1824). They had fifteen children, including twins, Elisha and Plipha, born in 1758; and triplets, Amy, Ruhama, and Tina, born in 1767. Harris died on 5 March 1797. [1] NOTE: this family tree collection contains sourced records for his children Harris, Elisha, Peter, Lucretia, Arnold, Mary, Elizabeth, Temperance, Ruhamah, and Sally.

Harris and Elizabeth Colt are mentioned in the death record of their daughter, Ruhamah, who died on 5 August 1768, in Connecticut, aged one year. She was buried at Marvin Cemetery. [2]

Harris Colt died on 5 March 1797 in Connecticut. [3]

Harris Colt, 1731-1797, died, aged 66, and is buried at Pleasant View Cemetery, Lyme, Connecticut. Harris was the son of Benjamin Colt and Miriam Harris. He married Elizabeth on 7 April 1757 (died in Hartford, CT, 1824, burial unknown). A daughter, Sarah Colt Griswold, 1778-1851, is buried in Pennsylvania. A son, Elisha Colt, 1758-1827, is buried in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. [4]

Ruhamah Colt, daughter of Capt. Harris Colt and Elizabeth, 1767-5 August 1768, died, aged one year. Burial: Marvin Cemetery, Lyme, Connecticut (FaG # 28507915)

Tempe/Tempy (Temperance) Colt, 1773- 6 March 1791, “died of the small pox in her 18th year.” She was the daughter of Captain Harris Colt. Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery, Lyme, Connecticut. (FaG # 28638778)
