Biography
Helen was born 26 January 1902 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, the daughter of Mortimer Colton and Maude Pritchett. [1] She married Stephen Arthur Brooks on 21 August 1923 in Napier, Boone, Iowa. [2] She died in September 1996. Her gravestone states September 8, 1996. Notice of her death was published in The Des Moines Register on 27 September 1996.

Colton - Brooks. The marriage of Miss Lucille Colton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morton Colton, of Boone and Stephen Arthur Brooks of Ames took place Tuesday at noon at the home of the bride's parents. Litte Pauline and Gertrude Kingsbury preceded the bride and groom with baskets of flowers and Helen Kingsbury served as ring bearer. The ceremony was performed before a bower of green vines and pink and white gladiolias (sic) in the presence of a few intimate friends. The bride wore a pearl gray gown of canton crepe and the flower girls were attired in pink organdy. Following the service a three course dinner was served, and the young people left immediately for an extended motor trip through the mountains of Colorado. They will be at home Sept. 15 at their farm home near Ames. Both young people are well known in Story county and the bride attended school at Drake. For the past year she has taught in the Napier Consolidated School.
