Biography

Nancy was born in Wilbraham, Hampshire (now Hampden) County, Massachusetts 9 April 1795.^[1][2][3] She married Francis Wheelock in Sturbridge, Worcester County 3 April 1814.^[4] After her husband died, she lived with her daughters - alternating between Emily (Wheelock) Hill in Sutton and Caroline (Wheeelock) White in Grafton, both in Worcester County.^[5] She died in Sutton on 30 Apr 1883.^[3]

Research Notes

Per death record, she was born 9 Apr 1795 in Wilbraham, Hampshire (now Hampden) County, Massachusetts, the daughter of Lois Colton (according to one record)^[1] or just Lois (according to another).^[3] There is a birth record in Wilbraham for Nancy Colton, born on 9 Apr 1795, daughter of Lois Hendrik.^[2] This is very likely the same Nancy. The failure to list the father in either the birth or death records, and the fact that her mother's surname in the birth record is not Colton suggests that she was born out of wedlock.
