Cephas was born in 1774. He is the son of William Colton and Dorothy Ashley. He died in 1775 just past his 1st birthday. There is a memorial marker in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.

Date discrepancies between memorial marker and records. Marker gives dod as 21 Sept 1777; records give 21 Sept 1775 and dob as 15 August 1774.
