Obituary

Obituary:Colville, James W. Esq. 30 Apr 1795 – 07 Nov 1878 A Patriarch Gone Another of the venerable pioneers of our county has departed. James W. Colville, Esq., of Eden Township, died on Thursday, November 7, 1878, at the advanced age of 83 years, 6 months and 7 days.

He was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia, in the year 1795. He removed to Licking County, Ohio, in the fall of 1826, and on the 26th of July, 1827, was united in marriage with Leah Baker.

In the same year, he moved on the farm where he afterward lived, through a period of 51 years. During his long life, he formed an extensive acquaintance throughout the county and by his merits as a citizen and patriot, made many warm friends. He was a soldier in the war of 1812. For twenty years he served his neighbors in the capacity of Justice of the Peace. In the last few years of his life, he spent much of his time in reading the Bible and other books of a religious character.

He thought much upon his future existence. As the curtain of life was gathering around him, he had the glorious assurance that he was prepared to die. He leaves behind him an aged companion and six children to mourn his loss.
