Biography

CHARLES COMEAU is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on plaque 2-Right. Listed with him are three children, Marianne, Charles, and Firmin Comeau, and an orphan named Elisabeth.[1]

Marie Anne Comeau, daughter of Charles Comeau and Madeleine Landry was born about 1745 in Acadie.

In October 1755, Marie Anne and her family were deported aboard the Dolphin which carried 230 passengers from Pisiguit, Acadie to Port Tobacco and Upper Marlborough, Maryland. [2]

On 7 July 1763, after the end of the Seven Years War, her widowed father Charles was on a list of exiled Acadians in Port Tobacco with her and her brothers, Charles and Firmin.[3]

On 27 July 1767, Charles age 58, his children Anne, Charles, Firmin and a 9-year-old orphan named Isabelle, were recorded on a list of arrivals in New Orleans, Louisiana.[4] The following month they appeared on a census in St Gabriel. [5]

Marie Anne married Jean Baptiste Doucet on 11 January 1773 in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. [6]

Their known children were: [7]

  1. Pierre Doucet (1774-1803)
  2. Marie Anne Adelaide Doucet (1777 - 1853)
  3. Firmin Maurice Doucet (1779-)
