Biography

Pierre Comeau le jeune dit Des Loups-Marins was born around 1658. He was the son of Pierre Comeau and Rose Bayon.[1]

He was listed in the censuses at Port-Royal in 1671[2]and 1678[3].

In 1686, at Port Royal, Pierre, aged 25, was living with his father, Pierre COMMEAU [sic], a widower, aged 88, and two brothers: Antoine, aged 24, and Jean, aged 21. They were living on 6 arpents of cultivable land with 4 cattle, 12 sheep and 4 hogs.[4]

He appeared again in the censuses in 1693, [5]1698, [6] 1700, [7] 1703, [8] 1707[9] and 1714. [10] [1]

Pierre (30) married Jeanne Bourgeois (21) (born about 1667 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Jacques Bourgeois and Jeanne Trahan) in 1689 in Port-Royal, Acadie.[1] Their known children were:[11]

  1. Pierre Comeau (abt. 1690–bef. 1704) .
  2. Jeanne Anne Comeau (abt. 1691–1754) .
  3. Marie Francoise Comeau (abt. 1692– ) .
  4. Anne Comeau (abt. 1696–1713) .
  5. Jeanne Comeau (abt. 1698–bef. 1744) .
  6. François Comeau (abt. 1701–aft. 1784) .

  8. Pierre Comeau (1706–1706) .
  9. Pierre Comeau (1707–1715) .
  10. Alexandre Comeau (1712– )

In August 1695, Pierre signed a loyalty oath to the King of England. Unable to sign his name, he made a mark on the document on which it is written: "Wee do swear and sincerely promise that wee will be faithfull and bear true allegiance to his Majesty King William King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland. So helpe us God." [12]

His date of death is unknown. The date 10 June 1716, has been removed from this profile since it belongs to his wife, Jeanne Bourgeois.

Research Notes

This younger Pierre Comeau (abt.1658-) married Jeanne Bourgeois.

The other older Pierre Comeau (abt.1652-1730) married Jeanne Bourg.

Both were brothers with the same parents.

1714 census
The Tim Hébert transcription of the 1714 census incorrectly shows "Pierre COMMEAU MARIN and wife, sons 8, daughters 1.

The correct data is: Pierre Commeau des Loups Marin and his wife, 3 sons, 1 daughter, as shown in the Heritage Canadiana transcription and Stephen White's Dictionnaire p. 381. [1]

I believe this death date of June 10, 1716 for Pierre Comeau dit le Jeune dit des Loups marins actually belongs to his wife, Jeanne Bourgeois. See the death record at: https://novascotia.ca/archives/acadian/archives.asp?ID=1530

Bona Arsenault's "Histoire Et Genealogie Des Acadiens" indicates Pierre's last child, Madeleine was born in 1713. I have searched many ways on the Nova Scotia Archives and have not found a death record for him after 1713.
