Byzantine emperor (1118-1143), the son of Alexios I Komnenos and Eirene Doukaina[1]. Ioannes was a humane and moral man, beloved by his nation and called Kaloïōannēs (meaning the good/the beautiful)[2].

He was the son of emperor Alexius I, john continued his father's policies of granting land in return for military service, extending trade concessions to Italy, and collaborating with crusader states in Syria and Palestine. He defeated the Hungarians, th e Serbs and the Pechenegs in Europe, contained the power of Turkish Danishmends in Asia minor, and countered aggression by the Norman's of Sicily by allying himself with the holy roman emperors Lothar II and Conrad III.
