Research Notes
"Ida Floyd Compton Maney was born Dec. 14, 1910 in Augusta, GA. She had one sibling, Lewis deLiesseline Compton (born 1908). This was our Uncle Lewis who died on the Truxton in Feb. 1942. His middle name was not Duvall, but his father (and Ida's) was named Lewis Duvall Compton. We are not completely sure of their mother's name. She and Lewis Duvall Compton both died when my grandmother was an infant, and she and her brother were raised by an aunt, Myrtle Minott, in Charleston, SC. So we really know very little about her birth parents. My grandmother never went by the name Dorothy and she never mentioned that name. She went by Floyd. She married my grandfather William Robert Maney and lived most of her adult life in Hendersonville, NC. She was active in the Red Cross. She died in Feb. 1981. In addition to my father, Robert Lewis Maney, she had one other child, a daughter Annette deLiesseline Maney, who died in 2003. [2]
