If he's not a duplicate and this Richard stayed in Monmouth, there is an interesting probate for a Richard Compton of Monmouth County, who died intestate before 19 Mar 1784 (Joseph Compton, administrator). He was the father of Jenny (Compton) Ferrel and Priscilla (Compton) Hinckson/Hingston. Priscilla's husband sided with the British, they later left the U.S., and when dad died Jenny petitioned for her sister's share of her inheritance (which was 1/4 part, so possibly there were other siblings to inherit--including possibly the Joseph who was administrator). I can't dig further on this line today, but maybe someone (or a future version of myself) will pick up these crumbs.
