George Congdon is an Anzac who served in World War One.

George was born in 1893. He is the son of Abel Penfound Congdon and Bertha Lewis.

Military Service 4th Battalion, AIF WWI.

3 FEB 1915. Travelled to England on the RMS Aquitania. He served in the 4th Battalion, AIF during World War I and saw service in Gallipoli. He also served in France and it was while there that he became ill with Bronchial Pneumonia and died.

Shipped to Egypt probably Tell El Kebir in Ismalia district. Pioneer Battalion, AIF WWI. 2 MAY 1916.

Occupation: Iron Safe Maker at time of enlistment.

Military Service: 5th Div. Mechanical Transport Company as a driver. Transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion.

The 4th Pioneer Battalion was an Australian infantry and light engineer unit raised for service during the First World War as part of the all volunteer Australian Imperial Force (AIF). Formed in Egypt in March 1916, the battalion subsequently served on the "Western Front" in France and Belgium, after being transferred to the European battlefields shortly after its establishment. The 4th Pioneer Battalion fought in most of the major battles that the AIF participated in between mid-1916 and the end of the war in November 1918. It was subsequently disbanded in early 1919.[2]

He also served in France and it was while there that he became ill with Bronchial Pneumonia and died.[3]

George was awarded three medals according to National Archives Digital Records.
