Biography

In 1851, Joseph was living with his wife and children in Canada West district (Ontario) in Ontario County, sub-district Scugog. The profession listed appears to be Hatter. Under religion was listed Church of England.^[1]

Since Joseph shows up on the 1851 census in Canada and then on the 1855 census in New York, we can safely say he immigrated sometime between these two dates. I'm still looking for immigration records however.

In 1855, Joseph was living with his wife and children on a farm in Birdsall, New York in Allegany County.^[2]

In 1860, Joseph was living with his wife and children on a farm in Birdsall, New York in Allegany County, New York. His profession was listed as Farmer. He owned $920 worth of real estate and $645 in personal property. Also in the household is a Luther Worden and his family. Luther was listed as a mechanic. He was listed as owning $720 in real estate and $350 in personal property. Worden's wife was born in Canada so might be Joseph's daughter? The other possibility is that Worden was born in New York as was Joseph's wife so perhaps there is some relationship there.^[3]

In 1865, Jospeh and his family were living in Vernon Centre, Minnesota in Blue Earth County.^[4]

In 1880, Joseph was living on his son's farm in Oregon, California in Butte County.The census listed his parents' birthplace as Canada.^[5]
