Calhoun (who was actually Vice President of the United States at one time --- a big politician) -- his home was in the area. His daughter and wife went to call on Anna when she arrived. Later Mr. Calhoun's daughter wrote from her home in Fort Hill, on October 5th, 1843 --- to a family member --- "Mrs. Renick has arrived & mother & myself called on her but could not get much out of her. I suppose since you say she is deaf perhaps she did not hear us distinctly. She is quite pretty & does not look more than sixteen at the outside but did you ever see two such babies belonging to one person unless they were twins? It gave me great comfort to compare with her I assure you."[3]
