Biography

Online birth records show he was the son of Joseph Connolly and Matha Rhodes. I think this is a clerical error. Martha Rhodes was married to John Stokes and she had a daughter born the same year as James in Greenough and the birth registration numbers were only three numbers apart. This means the children were born close together and so it is unlikely she gave birth to two children to different fathers.

His obituary confirms he is the son of a Joseph Connolly[1].

His wife was Ruby Grace Patience 1889 - 3/5/1957. Marriage records have his name as Vernon James. They had four sons and four daughters. He died age 59 in Rosella Hospital and is buried in Greenough Cemetery.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Connolly-2419 and Connolly-1245 appear to represent the same person because: Same year of birth and death, same wife and children.

Hi Greg, The WA BDM Index says James Vernon Connolly is the son of Joseph Connolly and Matha(Martha?) Rhodes <ref>WA BDM, Birth record, https://www.bdm.justice.wa.gov.au/: Reg: 685/1888</ref>. Do you have a source that suggests this is incorrect and he is really the son of Emma?

Hi Judy, James Vernon had an obituary in the Geraldton Guardian 24/6/1947 which says he is the son of Joseph Connolly. Greenough Cemetery records give his age at death as 59 which would indicate his birth was approx 1888. Joseph had a twin brother James and it looks like he only married in 1902 and there was no mention of any children when he died in 1906 so James is unlikely to be his son but he does share the same name. I found a Martha Rhodes born 1856 in Western Australia so perhaps James Vernon was born out of wedlock? I will try and find more information about Martha.

You are probably correct, but it's worth noting. Thanks for doing further research and adding further sources. His obit paints him as an interesting character.
