Biography

Margaret Adalade Connolly, daughter of Bailey Connolly and Rebecca Erwin, was born on 28 January 1839 in North Carolina, United States. [1][2] She was living with her parents and siblings in Yancey County during the 1840 U.S. census.[3] In 1850, they lived in Cherokee County.[4]

Sometime between 1851 and 1856,[5] the family, including her grandparents and possibly other extended family and neighbors, left North Carolina. They were living on a farm during the 1860 census in Hartville, Wright County, Missouri.[6]

Margaret married Paul S. Mingus, son of John Jacob Mingus and Sarah Maude Seabolt, in July 1860.[2][7] They had seven children:[8]

  1. Sarah Rebecca Mingus, b. about 1862[9]
  2. Martha Elizabeth Mingus, b. about 1864[9]
  3. William Coleman Mingus, b. 1865[10]
  4. Mary Jane Mingus, b. 2 Jun 1868.
  5. Alfred Frank Mingus, b. 4 Jan 1873[11]
  6. Rachel Lee Mingus, b. 26 May 1877[12]
  7. Ivy Mingus, b. probably after 1880, d. before 1900 at age 14 [2]

They lived on a farm in Franklin Township, Newton County, during the 1870 census. Their real estate was valued at $100 and personal estate at $246.[9] In 1880 and 1900, they were living in Boone Township, Wright County.[13][14]

Margaret was left a widow in 1908 at age 69.[15][16] By 1910, she was living in the household of her son-in-law and daughter, William and Lizzie Jones, in Boone Township.[17] She was still living with her daughter's family in 1920, but by then Lizzie was widowed.[18]

Margaret died of arteriosclerosis on 6 April 1927, at age 88, in Finley Township, Webster County.[1] She was buried the next day at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Wright County, outside of Hartville.[1][15][16][2]
