In 1900, twelve year old Bernard lived at 290 Sundance Street in New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey, United States with his father Edward (age 42), mother Rosana (shown as Rose, age 43), and siblings Andrew (age 22), Peter (age 20), Edward (age 18), Thomas (age 16), John (age 14), and William (age 10). His father was a tiremaker, Andrew was a pressman, Peter was a mill hand, and Edward was a cotton winder.[2]
In 1905, sixteen year old Bernard lived at 22 Alexander Street in New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey, United States with his father Edward (age 46), stepmother Mary (age 31), brothers John (age 18) and William (age 14), and newborn half-sister Agnes. His father and Bernard worked for the Empire Rubber Manufacturing Company and John was a trolley conductor.[3]
Bernard moved to Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States, where two of his brothers, Thomas and John, also moved.
Bernard married Anna Veronica Doyle October 17, 1909 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States[4]
and they had at least five children (see Notes).
In 1910 the family's last name was incorrectly shown as Conley. Bernard (age 21) and Anna (age 20) lived at 3216 92nd Street in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States. Bernard was a locomotive fireman.[5]
When Bernard registered for the World War I draft June 5, 1917 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States, he lived at 3216 E 92nd St with his wife and two children. He was employed by Chicago West Pullman Southern as a locomotive engineer and worked at 104th St and Manister Av. Bernard was of medium height and slender build, with blue eyes and dark brown hair.[1]
In 1920, Bernard (age 31) and Anna (age 30) lived at 3216 92nd Street in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States with children Bernard (age 9), Robert (age 5), and Eleanor (age 1). Anna's brother Michael Doyle (age 26) lived with them. Bernard was a railroad locomotive engineer and Michael was a railroad signalman.[6]
In 1930, the family's last name was incorrectly shown as Connally. Bernard (age 41) and Anna (age 39) valued their house at 10716 Avenue F in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States at $7,200. They lived there with children Bernard Jr. (age 19), Robert (age 15), Eleanor (age 11), Mary (shown as Marion, age 8), and Roseann (age 5). Anna's brother Michael Doyle (shown as Micheal, age 37) and Anna's nephew John Burk (age 18) also lived with the family. Bernard was a foundry foreman, Bernard Jr was a foundry laborer, Michael was a railroad switchman, and John was a sample boy in a steel mill.[7]
In 1940, Bernard (age 51) and Anna (age 41) valued their house at 10716 Avenue F in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States at $7,200. They lived there with children Eleanor (age 21), Mary (shown as Marion, age 18), Roseann (age 15), and Bernard (age 28), along with young Bernard's wife Angeline Connolly (age 24). Bernard was a yardman in a steel mill, Bernard Jr was an electric crewman in a steel mill, and Eleanor and Marion were unemployed.[8]
When Bernard registered for the World War II draft, he and Anna lived at 10716 Avenue F in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States and he worked for the Conternatal Rail & Steel Co in E Chicago, Indiana.[9]
Bernard still lived at 10716 Avenue F and was working as a superintendant when he died February 23, 1956 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States. His funeral arrangements were handled by the Claude E Griesel Mortuary.[10]
Bernard was buried February 27, 1956 in the St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Cook, Illinois, United States.[11]
