Denton was born on 20 March 1907 to Lucy Amanda Wiltrout and James Henry 'Hank' Connor. I have heard that his childhood was a difficult one and that his father was abusive. He had an older brother Clarence, one younger brother Delos 'Doc' and a younger sister Georgianna. I know that the siblings were all very close and that eventually they all reconciled with their father. Denton married the love of his life Carol Fosdal. He was a farmer during the Great Depression. His daughter Evelyn said she had large hands because she milked so many cows as a child. Evelyn and her brother Jack also started smoking as children...one of the main crops on their farm was tobacco. The Great Depression and an Epidemic made life so difficult that he and Carol divorced. Denton ended up moving to Woodstock, Illinois and the children rarely saw their father. Carol was left to fend for herself and her two young children. Denton loved to play golf and bet on racehorses at the track. He passed away on 23 Oct 1987 at his daughter Evelyn's home in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
