Biography

Career as a seaman

Signed up 1/2/1915 (Aged 26) at Townsville, Queensland - Originally in the 5th Regiment, 9th Battalion Australian Infantry

Sign-up papers describe him as 5' 7", 9st 2lbs, fair skinned, brown haired, blue eyed and a Roman Catholic.

Service Number: 1933

22/6/15 - Joined Unit

5/9/15 - Hospitalised (Neuralgia)

22/12/15 - Punished for 'overstaying leave' in Britain

2/4/16 - Moved to the 49th Battalion(Infantry), Australian Army (in Egypt)

5/6/16 - Embarked for France

2/8/16 - Promoted to Lance Corporal in the field

Killed in action 5/9/16

During the Battle of Mouquet Farm, near Pozieres

The Australians were withdrawn on 5th September.

The farm was eventually captured on 26th September.

His name is on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial (body never found).

His name is also on the Australian War Memorial, Campbell ACT, Australia
