Lenox - Ruth Patricia Pattangall, 85, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, died Saturday evening, Oct. 21, 2006 of ovarian cancer at Providence Care Center of Lenox. Born in Fall River on Jan. 22, 1921, the daughter of James L. and Rebecca A. Martin Connors, she attended schools there where she was a 1938 graduate of Durfee High School. A resident of Attleboro for 50 years, she had made her home in Lenox since November 2001, and was a communicant of St. Ann's Church. Mrs. Pattangall was a career homemaker. She volunteered for over 25 years with the Girl Scouts of America. She also volunteered much time to the service of children with physical and emotional challenges. She was an accomplished dressmaker and excelled at all forms of needlework. She enjoyed reading in later years and was unofficial "librarian" at Devonshire for the years she lived there. Mrs. Pattangall and her husband, Sewall Lincoln Pattangall, were married in Baltimore, Md. on May 4, 1942. He died on Nov. 24, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Monica R. Pattangall of Lenox. Mrs. Pattangall is also survived by her granddaughter, Rebecca G. Mitchell of Galway, N.Y., and her husband Michael Mitchell, and her great-grandchildren, Sam Lincoln Mitchell and Emma Gretchen Mitchell. She was predeceased by her sister Florence Fitzgerald of Westport, and a brother, James Connors of Derby, Conn. She also leaves 13 nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass honoring the life of Ruth P. Pattangall will be Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 385 Central Ave., Route 152, Seekonk, celebrated by the Rev. George B. Scales, pastor. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne at the convenience of the family. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, or to the Make a Wish Foundation, both in care of the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
