Biography

Lucy was born at Garber, Ford County, Illinois on 9 May 1878, a daughter of Paul Conrad and Caroline Escher. [1][2]

Lucy first appeared in the 1880 U.S. Census for Drummer Township, Ford County, in her father's household, as 2 years old, born in Illinois and living with her parents, her brother John E. Conrad, and a boarder by the name of Ferdinand Bruling. [3]

Lucy's father Paul Conrad died in 1897.

Lucy appeared next in the household of her mother for the 1900 census at Sullivant Township, Ford County, as Lucy L. Conrad, 22 years old, single, born in Illinois in May of 1878, her father born in Germany, her mother in Kentucky. She was able to read and write, and was living with her mother and nine siblings. [4]

Lucy married Samuel Rudolph Suter on 26 February 1901 at Paxton, Ford County. [5] They had at least five children together.

Lucy Suter appeared in the household of her husband for the 1910 census at Proctor, Drummer Township and was recorded as 31 years old, born in Illinois, her father born in Germany, her mother in Kentucky, married 9 years and the mother of 3 children (3 living). She was living on a farm with her husband and three children. [6]

Lucy appeared again in her husband's household at Drummer Township for the 1920 census as 40 years old, born in Illinois, and living with her husband and four children. [7]

In the 1930 census at Union Township, Mongomery County, Indiana, Lucy L. Suter appeared in her husband Rudolf R. Suter's household as 51 years old, married at the age of 23 and born in Illinois. They were living on a rented farm with three children. [8]

Sam died in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana on 30 November 1955. Lucy died on 9 October 1956. [1][2] They share a headstone in Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery at Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.
