Eliza was born 8 January 1843 in Darmstadt, Germany, a daughter of Christopher Conrad and Elizabeth Visterwill of Darmstadt.
According to the 1900 census, she arrived in the U.S. in 1855, when she would have been twelve years old. However her 1908 death certificate states she had been in this country for 43 years at the time of her death. That would make her immigration about 1865 when she was about 22 years old. Her actual year of immigration is unknown.
She married Peter Jung in the U.S. in about 1866, based on the birth of their first child in 1867, and the 1900 census stating they had been married for 34 years. No record of their marriage has been found, but Peter left Germany in 1865 with his first wife, Carolina, so Peter's marriage to Elizabeth had to have been in America.
Peter and Elizabeth had ten children together. Note that Katie Jung, born about 1860, who appears in census records with Peter and Eliza, is not Eliza's child. Katie is Peter's daughter from his previous marriage.
