Johannes was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, on 16 May 1742. He was recorded as the child of Johannes Consalis and Zara Knoet. Witnesses were Walron de Mon and Janneke Brink.[1]
Consaules is believed to be an alternative spelling of Gonsales (along with several others spellings). The latter was used by many descendants. Consaules was also used by a descendant and this name was subsequently transformed into Consaul, which was used by at least one line of descendants.
A family history source gives Johannes' birthplace as Nistigione, NY, which was the name of an historic village near Albany, now lost. The source listing Kingston, NY, south of Albany, as his birthplace is more authoritative.
