Biography

Father Sir Robert Constable, Sheriff of Yorkshire, Justice of the Peace for Yorkshire b. b 1495, d. 29 Oct 1558

Mother Katherine Manners b. c 1511

Barbara was born about 1531. Barbara was the child of Robert Constable and Katherine Manners.[1] Barbara was the first wife of Sir William Babthorpe. Suspected of Catholicism, Babthorpe proved his loyalty to Elizabeth I by helping to quell the ‘Northern Rebellion’ of 1569 which attempted to place Mary Queen of Scots on the throne.

Among the couple’s children was Margaret Babthorpe. Barbara passed away before 1558. [2]
