Biography

Samuel Converse was born on August 7, 1740 in Killingly, Windham, Connecticut[1], as the second child of Thomas Converse and Abigail Fay[2], was baptized on 10 Aug 1740 in Thompson, Connecticut[3]. He had five siblings, namely:

  1. Thomas Converse
  2. Abigail Converse
  3. David Converse
  4. Tabitha Converse
  5. Joel Converse

When he was 27, he married Meribah Burrill, daughter of John Burrill, on 27 Oct 1767 in Thompson, Windham, Connecticut Colony[4].

In 1771, Samuel and Meribah were part of the charter membership to the Congregational Church in Worthington, Massachusets Colony[5].
1776 Project
Private Samuel Converse served with 5th Connecticut Regiment (1781), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

On 29 Jul 1782, Samuel enlisted in the Connecticut 5th Regiment at the rank of Private[6]. The regiment was furloughed on June 15, 1783, at West Point, New York and disbanded on November 15, 1783[7].

Samuel died on July 4, 1786 in Rutland, Republic of Vermont aged 45[8].

  2. Persis (Converse) Ellis was born on 06 Jun 1783 in Rutland, Rutland, Vermont, United States.
  3. Griffeth onverse. He died on 26 May 1773 in Worthington, Hampshire, Massachusetts, USA.
