James Conway was born in 1829 in the Potsdam area of St. Lawrence, New York, the oldest son of Patrick Wesley Conway and Sarah Barrett. In 1850 he was living with his family in Lisbon, St. Lawrence, New York. [1] James married Mary Ann Riley about 1855, and they had three children between 1864 and 1883 (a daughter Martha, and two sons, George and Jesse).
James Conway registered for the American Civil War July 1, 1863 in Lake City, Minnesota. [2]
James died before January 2, 1904 when his wife Mary Ann filed a Civil War pension claim. [3]
