Biography

In the Betsworth Pedigree in the Visitation of Sussex[1] it was recorded that Sir Peeter Betsworth of Milland, Sussex, married as his second wife, a daughter of Edward Viscount Conway, his first wife being a daughter of Uvedale of Wickham [Hampshire].

The date and place of her marriage with Peter Bettesworth are unknown.

It is presumed her name was Christiana as the following burial was recorded at Milland, Sussex.[2]

"Christiana Bestworth ye wife of Sr Peter Betsworth was buried April 11th 1630"

However, according to Rev. Harvey[3] she was Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Conway. Perhaps Rev. Harvey was influenced by the will of Sir Peter Bettesworth which indicated that his then wife was named Elizabeth, but other evidence indicates that his widow was an Elizabeth Juby.

Which children of Sir Peter Bettesworth were also those of Christiana is uncertain.

Neither she, nor Sir Peter Bettesworth, nor any of her children were recorded in the will of Edward Viscount Conwey and Killultagh, the will dated 23 July 1629 and proved 12 Nov 1631.[4]

She was not listed by Burke as one of the children of Edward Viscount Conwey and Killultagh.[5]
