Biography

Martha Abbie Cook was born in Boston, MA, Nov. 3, 1837, to Robert Cook and Martha Wiggins, 2nd of six children. They moved to Henry Co, Illinois in late 1830's. She married, July 3, 1867, William Chauncy Wood in Henry Co,., IL. Wm C. and Martha had six children all born in Kewanee, Henry Co., IL. They lost one child as an infant in Kewanee, Henry Co. IL. They moved to Winfield, KS. around 1879 and to Oxford , KS around 1884, They must have lost 2 young sons in Kansas before moving to Logan Co. Oklahoma in the, "Oklahoma Land Run of 1889" There are 2 sons in the 1880 KS census that are not in the 1890 OT Census. I've had relatives tell me that they think George died prior to 1885, Francis was in the 1885 KS State census (Oxford, KS). I can find no record of this. They lived on the homestead in Oklahoma until 1909 when they moved into the town of Edmond, OK. She died in Edmond and is buried next to Sergt. WM C. Wood in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK. There is no grave marker, but the cemetery sextant has records for her, her sister Emma Cook, niece Nelly Maddie with infant together, all buried next to Wm C. Wood. I believe there is a 1900 OT census and a 1910 OK Census but I don't have them at this time.
