In 1777 he was an associate judge.
In 1780 he was speaker of the Senate.
He served in public life until his death.
His daughter rode on horseback to Belmont Hall to assist the family of Gov. Thomas Collins (her relatives) to mould bullets for the soldiers.
He passed away on 27 Oct 1789 in Smyrna, Kent County, Delaware, USA.
