Biography

Catherine Ann Cook was born in 1795, in Tennessee, a daughter of James Cooke, Sr. and Ruth Pierson, married August 3, 1786. [1]

Catherine Ann Cook married Elijah Cross, II, born 1791, a son of Elijah Cross and Ann Lane. Children of Catherine and Elijah are:

  • Thomas Jones Cross (1812 - 1888) married 1) Martha Jane Wright and 2) Mary Bowery [2]
  • Reverend William King Cross (1814 - 1893), who according to FamilySearch.org was married four times and had 13 children [3]
  • Rebecca Cross (1816-1892) married William Barnes [4]
  • Eliza Jane Cross Wright (1819 - 1907) married Obadiah M. Wright [5]
  • David H. Cross (1826 - 1886), married Julia A. Hart [6]
  • Elizabeth Cross (1831-1913) married Uriah P. Wright, a brother of Obadiah Wright, who married her older sister, Eliza Jane. [7][8]
  • Jacob C. Cross, born October 16, 1837 in Sullivan, Tennessee, died 1899, married Elizabeth Barnett, in 1863. Jacob is found living with his sister Elizabeth and his brother-in-law, Uriah P. Wright in Benton Township, Crawford county, Missouri, in 1860.

Catherine Ann (Cook) Cross died in 1837, around the time of her youngest son, Jacob's birth. Catherine is buried in the churchyard of the Muddy Creek Missionary Baptist Church, in Bluff City, Sullivan county, Tennessee. [9] After Catherine's death, her husband married Mary "Polly" Malone.
