Ashbel Cook, who was born May 3, 1741, came to Rutland from Wallingford, Conn., in 1778, bringing with him his family. Of his children Orel Cook was born soon after his father's removal here, on the 25th of June, 1778. Ashbel Cook was a tailor and worked at that trade in Rutland ; he must have been about the first tailor in the town.
