Biography

Gideon Cook was baptized 26 January 1751/2 (although reputedly born 10 January 1750, evidence has yet to be located) probably in East Haddam, Hartford County, Connecticut Colony. His parents are Ebenezer Cooke and Mercy Paine.[1]

Gideon married Huldah Lisk 20 March 1776 in East Haddam.There they had the following children:

  1. Anna, born 14 March 1777
  2. John, born 11 December 1778
  3. Gideon, born 28 November 1780
  4. David, born 25 November 1782
  5. William, born 11 February 1785
  6. Andrew, born 19 May 1787
  7. Huldah, born 11 September 1789
  8. [Unnamed] child, born and died 1790
  9. Azel, born 17 October 1791
  10. Fanny, born 22 December 1793
  11. Ebenezer, born 23 February 1796.[2]

Gideon died 12 Apr 1806 in East Haddam, and is buried there in Moodus Cemetery. His estate was probated, and the distribution named his widow, Huldy; daughter Anna, married to Henry Snow; David, of Stockbridge, and the remainder of the children as named in the paragraph above. In 1808, brother John and Becklay Rowley were named guardians for Fanny and Ebenezer, aged 14 and 12, respectively.[3]
