Biography

Andrew J Cook was born in 1827 in Blount County, Tennessee, USA. He was the son of John Cook and Nancy Morton. He was the first child born to John and Nancy Cook, fourteen siblings were born after him. He and other family members emigrated to Oregon Territory by wagon train, arriving in 1852 . Andrew J. Cook lived near the Applegate River. He was a farmer and stock grower and a blacksmith. He was a resident of Lane County trying to become the owner of Oregon Donation Land Claim, No. 6492. He lost the right to the ODLC, in the spring of 1855, when it was discovered that he did not continuously reside on the claim for at least two years. He moved to Josephine County in 1861. Andrew J Cook is buried in the Hays-Gall Cemetery, Jackson County, Oregon, USA.
