Australia Project: Montevideo Maru Connectors Challenge 2024
Tapadh leibh, Takk, Go raibh maith agat
Thank you Mary-Ann for your 2 contributions to the challenge last year.
It was a great success with your help, all but 9 profiles were connected (4 are still under investigation) of the 416 profiles posted to the challenge. Incredibly more than 600 POWs were connected across 2024
The code for the sticker will be forwarded to you by private message.
Do you have any suggestions for a connecting challenge for this year/future? Please let me know. I'd love to hear from you.
Once again thank you for giving these brave men back to their families but also helping to make WikiTree healthier
Amanda Myers (Australia Project)
I will keep an eye out for the next one and register sooner.
It's time for our annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for your involvement in the Project in the last year and for all your help improving Australian profiles on WikiTree. Australia Project members play such a vital role in Australian genealogy on WikiTree.
Please could you reply to this profile comment (don't add a new comment!), or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and to let us know what you plan to work on for the next year, and if you would like to change any of the teams you are on. Our teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.
We know that people move on to new things, so if you no longer want to be in the Australia Project, please let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.
Many Australia Project members are active on Discord. It's a great way to communicate with other members of your project team/s, or to ask any general questions. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. We also communicate through the Australia Project google group, and on the G2G.
We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Kylie, Margaret and Veronica

I have had my DNA done and my Mother is Elizabeth Shortcliffe (New Zealand) and my Father is William George Wilkinson originally from Wales but lived and died in New Zealand. I grew up in welfare homes and met my mother when I was in my 20,s but never met my father. The Shortcliffes appear to be easy to find but not so the Wilkinsons where could I get help please. Kind regards, John Campbell (Welfare gave me that name so its the only one I have)

I have received a note that you have added a few children to Sarah Wallgate and henry Goldsmith, Sarah is my 2nd Great aunt on my father's side. Married Henry when he came here and studied theology and preached at Ryde, Moruya, Thirlmere. She died of tuberculosis in the Picton Victoria Hospital for consumptives. They lived in Goulburn and he was involved with the development of the Church in Goldsmith St - presumed named after him - my grandson lives in Goulburn now. I have some stories on Sarah's life with Henry if you are interested. My daughter bought a motel in Braidwood in 1998 and did not realise her g grandmother Dulcie Wallgate was born there and that line and another Irish line go back 7 generations. Regards John Younie (Younie102)
Thank you for updating Foster Percy Seymour Bunnett (1886-1951) and related. Are you DNA related? regards,

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700 profiles. Thanks for adding sources. Could you possibly expand on your links to books etc. by adding the page number(s) where the source information can be found, and linking to those pages?
Please note that Burke's Peerage isn't considered reliable for pre-1700 profiles. Also, Rather than cite stirnet.com, it's best to find and cite the sources given in the references.
You may find this useful: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Project_Reliable_Sources
Hope this helps.

This will allow you to be their profile manager Sorry for the delay in attending to this matter, one of those slips Regards John
Per WikiTree, we are 16th cousins, 3 times removed. Our common ancestor is (Douglas-588) Janet Douglas Hamilton (bef. 1378-aft 1410). I'm just an old guy living in the upstate of South Carolina who got a late start in this stuff trying to help my sister with her desire to join the DAR.
Please don't add "Born in the Colony" stickers to profiles of people born AFTER 1900, it causes data error 847 Born after template time frame. Use the "Australia Sticker" instead. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Australia_Sticker
Thanks, regards, Margaret, Australia Project.
Regards, Margaret

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz! Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, thus coordinating with others is essential.
To find a project that may fit your research interests and provide opportunities to collaborate and contribute to our global tree, please use the Pre-1700 Projects list.
Please refer to the new recommended sources for citing Pre-1700’s sources. when working on profiles of that time period.
For questions, just ask.
