Mary Cook is a part of US Black heritage.

Mary Cook was born about 1904 in Washington DC. She was the daughter of Charles Cook and Mary Adelaide Abele.[1][2]

She was still living in 1954, and probably unmarried, being mentioned as Mary Cook, surviving sibling, in her sister Adelaide Cook Daly's obituary.
