James was born in 1846, son of John Cook (b. Scotland) and Eliza Jane Godfries? (Ireland). He was married in 1871 and listed as an artist in the census that year, living with his wife nd his parents.
By the 1881 Census, his household consisted of:[1]
By the 1891 Census, another child was added to the family but Sophronia was not present, having died in 1889:[2]
In 1901 the household had suffered another significant loss with the death of oldest child Jannet/Jennie at age 22. Meanwhile, another child was born:[3]
Victoria died in 1908 and Craig died while serving Canada in World War I. Margaret appears to have died in 1917.
