Merriman was born in Wallingford, New Haven County, Connecticut Colony on 1 October 1748, the son of Benjamin Cook and Hannah Munson.[1]

He married Mary Osborn in Wallingford on 2 May 1768.[2]

Their children were all born in Wallingford, and were:[3]

  • Joseph, born 1 September 1768 (p. 71.)
  • Eunice, born 6 December, 1770 (p. 69.)
  • Lydia, born 1773
  • Elihu, born 1 May, 1777 (p. 68.)
  • Lois, born 27 May 1782 (p. 71.)

Merriman died September 27, 1827 in Malta, Saratogo County, New York. [4]
