GENEALOGICAL NOTE - DISPUTED PARENTS: I can find no credible evidence that this Thomas Cook, born in 1570 in Netherbury, Dorset, Southwestern England, was the son of Thomas Cooke I of Pebmarsh, Essex, over 200 miles distant and Thomas' wife, Susan Brand. Thomas and Susan (Brand) Cooke had one daughter, Elizabeth Cooke, born ca. 1568/69 in Pebmarsh, Essex. She married first Edmund Reade in ca. 1594 and after his death, she married Rev. Hugh Peter, ca. 1625.
Thomas Cooke, Esq., of Essex had a son Thomas Cooke II, Esq., but he was born in Essex in 1564 and lived his entire life in the East of England, not in Dorset.
I am therefore removing Cook-182 and Brand-42 as parents for Thomas Cooke. If and when credible sources can be found that demonstrate these two were parents of Cooke-214, they can be restored. Some contemporary sources say that there was a Cooke family established in Dorchester, Dorset, as early as the 15th Century, including a Mayor of that city. It is to that family that researchers should look for the parents of Cooke-214 . Added by Chet Snow May 11, 2015.
