George Cooke has been active in writing, editing, and publishing. He wrote minibiographies for the journal "Conservation and Preservation News," conducted preservation surveys for local history groups, wrote about teaching the writing of autobiographies for the American Library Association. He worked with Holocaust Survivors on recollections of their survival. His best-known book is "Music by Gershwin." He commissioned book art by Adrian Rappin and others. He produced music books for Paul Sheftel. He edited books on trade reform for George Vargish. He published "Obstacles to Utopia," by poet Corinna Marsh. He was a free-lance editor for Prentice-Hall and Simon and Schuster. He founded Publication Arts, a graphic arts company that helped produce many books and other publications in New Jersey. He founded the "New Jersey Poetry Monthly." He is a world traveler and has visited Central and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. He is professionally qualified in conservation and preservation of rare books and photographs. He spent ten years in various universities and earned 3 MA degrees and finished all studies for his Ph.D in English at New York University. He was born in Michigan and moved to New York where he managed in a translation agency, and later was Editor-In-Chief of the University Society. He is also a professional librarian and worked in New York Public Library, directed two libraries in New Jersey, and taught conservation and preservation n the graduate school of Rutgers University. He currently lives in Orlando, Florida. George has taught English to many Spanish speaking immigrants. He has been active in promoting citizenship for undocumented Latino immigrants, as well as DACA recipients. He has been married to Arline Ochs Cooke for at keast' 34 years--and maybe longer. He has long been interested in genealogy and has located many of his ancestors from the 17th century and earlier, to the present. He has so far not identified any horse thieves, but has found ancestors involved in prosecution of witches, massacre of Indians, service in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, world wars.
