Biography

Alec was the eldest son of (Norman) Victor Cooke, linen manufacturer, and his wife Alice Harmon née Peavey; his birth was registered in Larne.

He was a Northern Ireland senator 1960-68 and was created a life peer (Lord Cooke of Islandreagh) in 1992.  He was a director of Northern Ireland airports 1970-85 and chairman of Harland & Wolff 1980-81.
