Biography

Sarah Morris, eldest daughter of Thomas Todd Cooley and Mary Paterson Edmonston Aberdeen. Her father was a prominent businessman who had been transported to the colony for a crime he didn't commit. Sarah's mother was Mary Paterson Edmonston Aberdeen. There is some confusion as to Mary's name with records showing several variations.

In 1859 Sarah married David Jones, recently widowed and with a young son. Sarah and David never had children between them. When Edward was in his early teens, Sarah and her family set out for New Zealand.

They arrived in Otago and settled at Macetown in the Queenstown Lakes district.

David returned to Australia where he died in 1886.

Sarah lived in Arrowtown and in 1897 remarried to Sidney Augustus Hadley. She died in 1904 age 67 and is buried at Arrowtown cemetery. NEW AREA BLK 2 PLOT 113.
