Biography

Joel was born in 1894 and was the son of Gus Cooley and Harriett Kelly. He was a World War I Veteran.

The family of Thomas and Harriet Cooley relocated to Texas between 1893 and 1896 and can be found living on a farm they were renting in Hunt County, Texas at the time of the 1900 Census. Those in the household included "G"A Cooley (37 yrs), Head of Household, born 10/1862, occupation, Farmer, H L Cooley (37 yrs), Thomas Cooley (16 yrs), Effie Cooley (13 yrs), Victor Cooley (10 yrs), Haden Cooley (7 yrs), Freddie Cooley (4 yrs) and "Bulah" Cooley (3 yrs). Thomas and Harriet were married in 1882 and had been married 18 years. They were the parents of 8 children, 6 living at the time of the Census.

By the time of the 1910 Census, the family of Gus and Harriett Cooley had relocated to Sulphur Springs, Texas and were living in a home they were renting on Texas Street. Those in the household included Thomas A Cooley (49 yrs), Head of Household, occupation, Carpenter in the Housing industry, Harrett Cooley (47 yrs), Effie Cooley (23 yrs), Victor Cooley (21 yrs), Hayden Cooley (17 yrs), Fred Cooley (14 yrs) and Beula Cooley (13 yrs). Also included in the household was their son, Henry Cooley (25 yrs) and his wife, Ebbie Cooley (18 yrs), who had been married 1 year. He passed away in 1951.
