Obituaryd wife of RL Day, Winters merchant. Mrs. Day breathed her last at 7am this morning, at her home at Winters. She had been bedfast for four months and had been ailing a long while with tuberculosis. The funeral will he held Friday afternoon 3pm. Mrs. Day was 51 years old, a native of Illinois. Her maiden name was Esther Cooling. She was married May 11, 1889 at the Charles Scott home seven miles northwest of Winters, to RL Day. who survives her and who Is engaged in the drug business. To this union were born Harry J. Day, an Esparto merchant, and Beatrice Day, who is now a student at the Winters high school. In the death of Mrs. Day Winters lost one of her most worthy residents. As past president of the Winters Improvement Club and WCTU, and as past secretary of the Winters Christian Church, and as a trustee of the Winters grammar school, Mrs. Day held much interest in the religious, educational, civic, and social affairs of the community and her life was filled with noble deeds. Many are the tears and other sincere tributes paid when a ripened head is plucked, yet there is a feeling that the taking is a natural process and resignation is served, but when a noble character like Mrs. Day is removed at an age when life is rich with promise, and work on every hand that she could and would do, a strange wonderment takes possession of us. It is not doubt; to doubt would be to wrong her memory. Rather, it is an acknowledgment of wisdom beyond ours that without faith in, the hour of trial such as this to those who loved her would be unendurable. ^[1]
