Biography

Joseph Coombs was born June 6, 1783, in Georges Twp., Fayette County Pennsylvania, a son of John Combs and Rachel Pindell. [1]

Joseph's father was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, and DAR Ancestor #A025622. His maternal grandfather, Captain Philip Pendall was also a veteran of the American Revolutionary War and DAR Ancestor #A089115. Although the descendants of Joseph's brothers Graham and Edward applied for membership based on their father's military service, descendants of Rachel (Coombs) Fisher, Joseph and Mary's daughter, are members, based on Captain Pendall's service. Captain Philip Pendel died on their Virginia farm on "Flaggy Meadow" in the present Grant District, about seven miles from the site of Morgantown. He was buried in Wiseman Graveyard, near Lawesville, Monongalia county. [3]

Joseph died in 1840, and was buried in the Wiseman Cemetery, in Grant, Monogalia county, Virginia. [4] (This part of Virginia became West Virginia, at the onset of the American Civil War)
