Biography

Research Notes

Parents

No primary sources are available about Joseph's parents. Contradicting secondary sources indicate that Joseph was a son of Joseph Coombs and Mary Edwards,[2][3] or Thomas Coomes and Elizabeth Wharton.[4] Since all other known children of Thomas and Elizabeth were born in Maryland, and all known children of Joseph and Mary were born in Virginia, it is most likely that this Joseph was the son of Joseph and Mary.

Children

About 1750, in Virginia, Joseph married Anne Davenport. Children of Joseph and Anne may include the following:

  1. John Coombs, born November 5, 1753.
  2. Jesse Coombs, born before 1760. Married Sarah (or, possibly Rachel Bowell)
  3. Nancy Ann Coombs, born 1760.
  4. Joseph Coombs, born prior to 1764. Died 23 Apr 1784.
  5. William Coombs, born abt 1763.
  6. Hannah Coombs (Find A Grave: Memorial #42686273), born July 15, 1766, in Fayette City, Pennsylvania, died June 3, 1829, in Charlestown, Clark county, Indiana, [5]
  7. Sarah Coombs, born January 23, 1770.
  8. Mary Coombs, born before 1788. Married Unknown Gray
