Michael was the son of Michael Cooper of Henlow whose will was proved in 1539/40 at the Archdeaconry Court of Bedford.
"The will of Michael Cooper of Arlesey and Henlow, the father of Edmund Cooper, is dated 2 July 1556 and proved 16 October 1556 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury [App., No. 1] In it he mentions: his eldest son John, to whom he devised land bought from his brother William Cowper in Arlesey and land bought in Arlesey from Jasper Smythe; son Edmund, to whom he devised a house and land in Henlow; wife Elizabeth; son Olyver, to whom he devised a parcel in Arlesey called Rosewike and one in Henlow called Little Edwards; sons George, Richard and Robert, all aged under 20 years; and daughters Agnes and Judith, both unmarried and aged under 23 years. The testator's executors were wife Elizabeth and his brother-in-law William Papworth, and John Page, gent., his overseer (his wife's brother).
He died between 2 Jul 1556, the date of his will, and 16 Oct 1556 when probate was granted.
