Biography

Arthur was the son of Judge Charles H. Cooper and also the brother of the actor Gary Cooper. Arthur was in the banking business.

Arthur was born 15 January 1895 in Helena, Montana, the son of Charles Henry Cooper and Alice Louisa Brazier.^[1]

He attended Dunstable Grammar School in England, and was also on the school's shooting team. He and his brother were excellent marksmen, having to learn to handle guns from an early age on their father's ranch in Montana.^[2]

He married Ethel Pauline "Jane" Carpenter on 12 March 1920 at Great Falls, Montana.^[3] They were the parents of a daughter, Georgia May (1923-2007)^[4] and a son, Howard LeRoy Cooper (1926-2012).^[5] His wife died 28 April 1928 in Helena, when Arthur was 33 years of age.

On 5 September 1929 he married Emma Jean Strayer in Waterloo, Iowa.

His death came 15 May 1982 in Los Angeles. He was 87.^[6]
