Philena C. Voeller

VOLLER, Philena C. daughter of Pliny Edgar Cooper and Chloe Estene Waite Cooper, was born January 26, 1903 at home on Dodson Mountain Ranch in Roseburg and passed away on June 14, 1998 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 95 years. She was also the granddaughter of Plinn Cooper, a pioneer of Roseburg, Oregon. Philena grew up on Dodson Mountain Ranch in Roseburg. She attended the Sisters of the Holy Names Boarding School in Medford, Oregon where she graduated from the eighth grade. She was also a graduate of Roseburg High School. She attended the teachers college in Monmouth, Oregon and graduated with a lifetime teaching certificate. She was a teacher at Roberts Creek School south of Roseburg and also taught school at Captain Robert Gray School in Astoria, Oregon for a number of years. She was united in marriage to Michael H. Voeller in Roseburg, Oregon on August 17, 1930. They moved to Portland, Oregon after they were married where they lived in their home for over 60 years. She was a sales clerk for 15 years at the downtown Meier & Frank store until she retired. She was a volunteer at the Francis Center, which is a distribution center for needy families, for many years. She also volunteered for many years at the St. Rita Catholic Church Spaghetti Dinner. Her hobbies were her vegetable garden and beautiful flower garden at her home. She also enjoyed hiking and camping. She was a recent resident at Homewood Heights Assisted Living Home in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael and daughter Marilyn. She is survived by her son, Paul E. Voeller and his wife, Sharon; four grandchildren and four great-grandsons. Mass for Christian Burial will be held for her at St. Rita's Catholic Church on June 18 at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow the Mass at St. James Cemetery, McMinnville, Oregon.
